This cake was so fun! It is a 1/2 sheet cake with a Lightning McQueen charachter cake on top. It is a pound cake covered in buttercream. The dirt road is crushed graham crackers. I was so excited to make this cake for one of my best friends from high school that I reconnected with over Facebook!

Jacob is 1!
My sweet little cute nephew turned 1! I made this cake for him and he got his own cupcake. His mother is very protective of him getting too much sugar, like we all are with our first so no big smash cake for him! Turns out, he could have cared less about that cake anyway. My brother had to take the icing and put it on his lip and he was still not impressed! He must have been just over tired because no one in our family ever turns down sweets!
This was a double layer 10" round on the bottom and three 8" rounds on top. They were filled with lemon curd and iced in lemon buttercream with cream cheese fondant accents. This could also be a baby shower cake.

I love Autumn!
I really do love Autumn! There is just something about the cool weather with the leaves changing that just makes me want to stay inside and bake! I have done a fall cake for the past couple of years. The chocolate cake here was for my friend's birthday last year. It was her 39th. I did not make her a cake this year (her birthday week turned out to be a week where I had several other cake orders) but in retrospect, maybe it is better to have a bigger celebration for 39! The other Autumn cake I did was for the birthdays at my kid's school. It was for September, October and November birthdays and you just can't fit that on a cake and it still be pretty! I drew the leaves and acorns free hand and filled them in.

Cookie Cakes?
I had a request for a cookie cake. I have never done one of these but it was fun! It took me a while to get the cookie right since I was working off a regular cookie recipe. I made the cookie four times! The first time I just totally burned it because I was working an intense sewing project. The second time it was just a little more done than than I wanted it. The third and fourth time it turned out great!
Most of the time I don't have any extra cake for my family so they were all thrilled that I messed up and since I cut the bats from a bar, there was some of that left over too! Plus when there is leftover cake, there is usually not any leftover icing! Cookies are good with or without icing!
Horse cake!
Okay. I am going to be honest. I did not want to do a horse cake! Maybe I was intimidated. Maybe I just didn't have any inspiration. Not really sure. But this was for my sweet, sweet cousins so I was doing the cake no matter what! So I did surfed the net and I found a horse cake with the fence. I think it turned out really cute. :)

More Cupcakes!
These cupcakes were for my son's first grade teacher! These are cream cheese cupcakes with chocolate buttercream frosting. They were really good! I think I found my new "yellow cake" recipe!
I walked by a bakery last week and I couldn't resist going in to check out what they had on display and naturally since I had three kids in tow, we got some treats! I got a cupcake and a petit four for me and my youngest son (my older two were holding out for slushies that I promised for patient, well behaved shoppers!). They were really cute but not really good. I would love to have a bakery (after my kids move out!) but I think the whole point is that they taste good. I love cute but I never want to trade cute for delicious! Life is too short to eat bad cake!

Baptism
My sweet angel of a daughter was baptized last Sunday. We are so proud of her! We were blessed to share our celebration with some close friends of our family whose son was also baptized in the same service. This was a cake that I made for a party after the service. I made this one and the "Girl Cake" at the same time. With the kind of crazy schedule I keep, I hope no one will hold it against me that that they are so similar! Gotta keep it simple sometimes!
Girl Cake!
I love pink and brown. I know that makes me such a girl. So I really wanted to do a girl cake. This cake was for the staff who had summer birthdays at my kid's school. I worked there last year. It is a private school with a small amount of staff who happen to all be women. So I knew I was safe making a girl cake for them. Except this year it turns out that there is a man. I don't know him-I just saw him from the carpool line. I really hope he did not have a summer birthday. It is bad enough that he has to be surrounded by women colleagues all day, but I hate to think of him having to eat pink cake too!

Cupcakes!
This was a fun request! This customer had a tiered cupcake cake for her rehearsal dinner when she was married so she wanted to try it for her daughter's birthday. I had to make sure I knew what she was asking for but once I figured it out, I was sold! The stand I bought to do this is really versatile. I added a coordinating ribbon. I am looking forward to finding cute ribbon patterns and making cupcakes to match!

Who Lives in a Pineapple under the Sea?
I had a lot of fun with this cake. It is a pound cake with chocolate Italian Meringue Buttercream filling and iced with buttercream icing. It was for my girlfriend's daughter whom I have know since she was less than 2. I wanted her to love her cake so I sent her 6 pictures to choose from. This is probably too much info for a 9 year old. I will have to remember that for future reference but I am glad that I did because I ended up making this cake from ideas from 3 other cakes we saw on cakecentral.com. Check out this website. They have amazing cakes. The only problem is that there are so many, you will look at cakes for hours!

Cupcakes
I seem to like to do cupcakes for Easter. These were for my daughter's class. This was the first year I made them, I thought they were really cute but it turns out that most kids don't like coconut. The second year I wised up and did it all in buttercream but it took FOREVER! They turned out nice though so that is all that matters! Too bad I cannot find a picture of the buttercream grass cupcakes. I will add them if they ever turn up. The pink flowers I did for a nine year old birthday. The instructions I was given were "something girly". I thought those fit the bill!

Sports Cakes
I found the coolest cake pan last year. Coincidentally, these were the first two cakes that I sold. The first one is a cake that I did for my dear friend's 40th. She is a tennis player and girly girl so this cake was perfect for her. The second one is a baseball cake that I did for a 10 year old. These are so fun!
Graduation cakes!
These are two graduation cakes I did. The first cake was for a highschool graduation party for three girls. The bottom part of the cake is as girly as they come! This picture is actually the back of the cake. The front had the names of the girls and 2008 but this picture shows the detail on the cake best. The top is a graduation cap made of cake covered in buttercream and the top of the hat is rolled fondant. The only part that is not edible is the tassel. I actually made a tassel out of fondant but it did not make it in one piece when I delivered the cake. Luckily I knew right where to buy one and stopped on the way! I guess all those years working in restaurants has really taught me to think under pressure and improvise!
The second cake was for my sweet son's kindergarten graduation. They had a beach theme so I made this sand castle cake. It served 80 but this cake could easily be downsized for a birthday or pool party.

Two of my favorites!
The first picture is a pony castle cake for a friend's daughter who was turning four. The second is a Super Mario brothers cake. I did a lot of research for this cake because I did not know anything about it! I ended up going with this 3D cake. The mushrooms and the venus fly traps are made of buttercream icing and fondant. The coins, the mushrooms with eyes and of course Mario and Luigi are figurines.
CAKES!
I started this blog as a way to share my cakes. I started making cakes for sale for friends last fall. I am so excited to be able to supplement my family's income doing something that I love. I have been living and breathing cakes this month. I have been praying that God would show me what I should do for extra money since I won't be working at the kids' school next fall. I believe God is showing me that it is out there but it is not going to be easy! But I am truly grateful and blessed!
