Cupcakes

I seem to like to do cupcakes for Easter. These were for my daughter's class. This was the first year I made them, I thought they were really cute but it turns out that most kids don't like coconut. The second year I wised up and did it all in buttercream but it took FOREVER! They turned out nice though so that is all that matters! Too bad I cannot find a picture of the buttercream grass cupcakes. I will add them if they ever turn up. The pink flowers I did for a nine year old birthday. The instructions I was given were "something girly". I thought those fit the bill!

Sports Cakes

I found the coolest cake pan last year. Coincidentally, these were the first two cakes that I sold. The first one is a cake that I did for my dear friend's 40th. She is a tennis player and girly girl so this cake was perfect for her. The second one is a baseball cake that I did for a 10 year old. These are so fun!

Graduation cakes!

These are two graduation cakes I did. The first cake was for a highschool graduation party for three girls. The bottom part of the cake is as girly as they come! This picture is actually the back of the cake. The front had the names of the girls and 2008 but this picture shows the detail on the cake best. The top is a graduation cap made of cake covered in buttercream and the top of the hat is rolled fondant. The only part that is not edible is the tassel. I actually made a tassel out of fondant but it did not make it in one piece when I delivered the cake. Luckily I knew right where to buy one and stopped on the way! I guess all those years working in restaurants has really taught me to think under pressure and improvise!
The second cake was for my sweet son's kindergarten graduation. They had a beach theme so I made this sand castle cake. It served 80 but this cake could easily be downsized for a birthday or pool party.

Two of my favorites!

The first picture is a pony castle cake for a friend's daughter who was turning four. The second is a Super Mario brothers cake. I did a lot of research for this cake because I did not know anything about it! I ended up going with this 3D cake. The mushrooms and the venus fly traps are made of buttercream icing and fondant. The coins, the mushrooms with eyes and of course Mario and Luigi are figurines.

CAKES!

I started this blog as a way to share my cakes. I started making cakes for sale for friends last fall. I am so excited to be able to supplement my family's income doing something that I love. I have been living and breathing cakes this month. I have been praying that God would show me what I should do for extra money since I won't be working at the kids' school next fall. I believe God is showing me that it is out there but it is not going to be easy! But I am truly grateful and blessed!
